MISSION STATEMENT
The purpose of the Civic League shall be to encourage and undertake projects of a civic nature that enhances better community living for The Thompson Center on Lourdes.

HISTORY
In 1951 Neola Thompson and several women who had met through the Appleton Newcomber's Club formed a new group to continue their friendship and social activities. More importantly, this new group was to add a new dimension to their lives - namely a means to say, "Thank you" to a city that had welcomed them so warmly. Their first fundraising goal of paying for a room for Appleton Memorial Hospital ($10,000) was met and proved indicative of the kind of challenge Civic Leaguers set for themselves. In 1952 they organized the Golden Age Club of Appleton. In 1960 the League purchased the Golden Age Clubhouse and paid the first mortgage in only seven years. Later, two adjacent lots were purchased. In 1968, through a public fundraising drive and pledges, they secured the finances to build an addition onto the Neola Thompson House - all without federal funding. The Civic League now services The Thompson Center on Lourdes by planning potlucks and special events, coordinating themes, decorations, booking entertainment, and obtaining sponsors.

CIVIC LEAGUE TODAY
The Civic League averages 20+ members. They meet the first Monday of the month at The St. Bernadette Center from 1:00 - 3:00pm and are always looking for new members. Come to a meeting and meet these hard-working, fun-loving members. See if the Civic League is for you!
